Account aggregation allows you to view your online account balances from different financial providers on just one web page using just one log in. Sounds good, but how does it work? There are currently two methods of aggregation.
Third party aggregation
-
This is when you give your Egg security details to another organisation for them to record.
-
You should not do this for security reasons unless Egg approves of the aggregator concerned.
User driven aggregation
-
This is when your details are encrypted on your own PC using a special piece of software.
-
It doesn't require you to give security details to anyone else.
-
The security of user driven aggregation is dependant on your own computer and whatever software the aggregator requires you to download.
Please bear in mind Egg's approval of third party aggregation services does not mean that Egg endorses the services they provide. It means that you won't be in breach of your terms and conditions and you'll remain covered by the
Egg Guarantee.
The Financial Services Authority has provided notes and consumer guidance about aggregation services. To find out more go to www.fsa.gov.uk.
We may withdraw our approval of third party's aggregation services at any time and we'll communicate status changes on this page. It is also possible that the user driven aggregator selected by you may breach the security guidelines we have set out. If you choose to use the services of an unapproved third party aggregator or suffer loss through the use of your user driven aggregator service you may not be covered by the Egg Guarantee. If we're aware that you're using an unapproved aggregator or have concerns regarding your user driven aggregation service we may ask you to cancel your registration with them and reset your security details with Egg. Alternatively we may close your account.
