Staying safe. If you think you've found a suspicious transaction or a potential security breach, call 08451 233 233 immediately.
To ensure confidence and peace of mind for all customers who use our services, we're continually improving and developing our security measures.

We employ a range of security measures to protect your security and personal information and ensure that no-one has access to it. These include:

  • A 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption engine that provides industry standard levels of security ensuring that your information cannot be read by anyone else.

  • Firewalls and monitoring tools that are used to identify any potentially fraudulent behaviour.

  • A series of passwords and personal information chosen by you that enables Egg to recognise you before you use the service.

  • Logging you off your account if it's inactive for more than 15 minutes, and suspending your account after three invalid log in attempts.

  • Storing your personal information away from our web servers on separate machines that are further protected and have no direct public access.

  • A dedicated security team that investigates new technologies, monitors activity and responds promptly to any security issues.

Security certificate

Every company which has a secure website has a certificate issued by a certificate authority to let internet users know that the website is genuine, and therefore secure.

Egg's main security certificate is issued by Verisign. If your browser isn't set to recognise Verisign certificates it may prevent you from accessing the Egg website. For more information on certificates, visit the Verisign website.

Security indicators

Your browser shows you that a website area is secure when an unbroken key or a lock appears in the browser window. The address at the top of the screen should also start with https://.

Secure messaging

Egg will always ensure that any message received has come from an authorised source. Messages received through the 'your accounts' area of the site are secure and we'll therefore be able to deal with any questions you have. As ordinary emails aren't secure, we cannot be sure that the sender of the email is the account holder and as such, we won't give out account specific account information in this way.

Egg Money Manager

If you make use of Egg Money Manager then you'll be asked to download a password safe that protects your non-Egg account details by using encryption technology to ensure no one else can read them, including Egg.

Telephone security

Whether you call us, or we call you, we always take steps to check your identity before giving out information about your account over the phone.

Keeping ahead

Security is a constantly evolving process and customer can be assured that Egg reviews its security arrangements continuously to ensure we're doing everything we can to protect our customers' information.

Whilst we've implemented many security features, we don't have control over the computer environment you use (for example, PCs and networks at work, university, internet cafes etc) to access our services. As such, you should ensure you're satisfied with the security of these facilities before using them to access your Egg accounts. This will include taking the following steps - you should ensure you're not overlooked by anyone when you enter your Egg security information, and that you don't leave the PC unattended when you're logged in. If you do need to leave the PC you should always make sure you log out from your Egg secure session.
